The dialogue featured the British Deputy High Commissioner, Laure Beaufills to engage people on how the British Government is supporting the Nigerian government in abolishing corruption in the land. The session had the DFID country director in attendance and also from all DFID sponsored projects in Nigeria.

The session showed how critical the support of the UK government to Nigeria is in reducing the rate at which corruption is going, it also revealed the support the UK government gives to non-governmental organizations to promote good governance, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria. It was no gainsaying at the end of the program that the UK through their programs has been a very critical supporter of good governance in Nigeria.

The dialogue helped to engage the thoughts of participants to know what interventions they would like to see, this gave the participants the opportunity to pour out their minds to the commissioner and she promised they were already doing a lot, which they also don’t mind doing more.

In her words “We have made Money Laundering so hard” this has stopped the political elite class from seeking a safe haven in the UK. She also used the opportunity to mention the works they are doing to make good governance strong in Nigeria.

Ekanem Bassey, from DFID, was also on the floor to give more details about all the works they have been doing in Nigeria. She spoke about how people get annoyed and do not take action. In her words “We should transmit our online agitations to offline actions” this will allow us to see more results we want she said. She also highlighted the fact that they find it difficult to find NGOs to work with because more of them don’t speak up about getting assistance for their work.  However, we are ready to work with more NGOs/ CSO’s who do quality work in making Nigeria a better place she said.

Over 50 people were in attendance at the meeting and all gave awesome feedback.
