NXT LVL: CIVICTECH with Victoria Oladipo

Interview and Special Feature with Victoria Oladipo – Learn Politics.

  1. You believe politics doesn’t have to feel distant. What’s your secret to making topics like policy formulation engaging for a young audience on social media?

I try to connect political ideas to real situations that young people already understand. Politics and policy affect things in everyday life. I try to use things people are familiar with in interacting with their understanding of it. Once people see how a policy shows up in their daily decisions, it stops feeling abstract and becomes something they can engage with confidently.

  1. What’s one common misconception about Nigerian politics that your courses actively work to correct?

A big misconception is that politics is only for people in power. Many young Nigerians think they can’t make a difference unless they hold a position. Our courses address this by showing the many ways people can participate, from community organising to advocacy to civic tech and accountability work. Once learners see that influence starts with awareness and collective action, they realise they already have a place in the system.

  1. Since the Civic Tech Fellowship closed out, what are you most proud of achieving with your solution?

I am most proud of the Solution -Civic Learn. But more especially proud of the support we’ve gotten from the Nigeria Youth Future Fund in providing content for the solution. Some of the feedback that we have gotten has spoken to how quick and easy the course content is, which is what we are trying to achieve.

  1. Looking ahead, what does the next chapter look like for your initiative?

We are looking at developing better partnerships and looking for how we can be ingrained in the Civic Space ahead of the 2027 Elections.  We are also looking forward to recording new courses for our LMS and seeing how we can do more publicity to get people to use our solution.
