PRESS RELEASE: Amplify Moves into Civic Hive Pre-incubation stage.
Amplify advances into the Preincubation Stage of Civic Hive Fellowship Programme
Lagos, Nigeria, August 20, 2017 – AMPLIFY a civic tech solution has advanced to the preincubation stage of the competitive Civic Hive Fellowship Programme for innovators. AMPLIFY as the name implies, projects the voices of people in underserved and forgotten communities across Nigeria with the aim of garnering support for them, and ensuring sustainable interventions come from addressing their issues.
“In the course of the Fellowship programme in the last three months, we have had access to mentoring, technical support, allowances, office space, internet facilities, which has made the idea to continually evolve into an impactful civic solution,” Dotun Olutoke, the Lead Partner of AMPLIFY says. “The opportunities we have in this accelerator programme is unrivalled as we benefit from the expertise and knowledge of key players in Nigeria’s civic tech space. Key in this respect is the mentoring advantage we have regularly with Oluseun Onigbinde of BudgIT who doubles as the founder of Civic Hive,” he submits.
In piloting the idea, Amplify now has footprints in three communities in the Southwestern part of Nigeria, where stories of people have been captured. The “Needicator” project by Amplify which highlights critical developmental needs in underserved communities has identified infrastructural gaps in Sekona, Osun State, neglect and abandonment of farmers in Akufo farm settlement, Oyo and most recently the poor welfare conditions of residents in Ogere Trailer settlement in Ogun State.
Through digital storytelling, data and visualisations, actionable information about the needs of these communities and the welfare of forgotten people will be made available to a wider audience via a web platform and social media channels. This is with the intention of engaging citizens to spark conversations that will be sustained by offline interactions. With increased engagements, the ultimate goal will be targeted at closing the gap between the government and underserved communities in Nigeria.
